Amorim explained that genes function as "our instructions," but the environment also plays a crucial role in how each individual responds. The author emphasized the importance of "genetic literacy" so people can understand the impact of their genetic information and use it for informed health decisions. Genetics, according to the doctor, is evolving beyond diagnosis, with new therapies and increasingly personalized medicine.
The physician, who has coordinated the Medical Genetics consultation in the region since 2019, feels a strong connection to Madeira and the people she works with, considering the island like a "family." Presenting the book in the region was a way to share her work with the local community.
