Funchal PS Proposes GPS and Audio Warnings for Blind Residents

The Socialist Party in Funchal advocates for the creation of an urban GPS system accessible to visually impaired individuals and an increase in audio warnings at traffic lights and on public transport.

These proposals followed a meeting with ACAPO Madeira, where challenges such as architectural barriers and the lack of auditory information were discussed. The party also suggests enhancements for bus stops and buses, including audio announcements of stops and vehicle identification.

Sérgio Abreu, leader of the PS Municipal Group, stressed the importance of public transport for autonomy and combating isolation. The party further suggests reinforcing Braille, tactile paving, and professional training, emphasizing the need to develop solutions collaboratively with the blind community.
