The Funchal Senior University has commenced the 2026/2027 academic year with a record 184 students enrolled, the highest number since its inception.
The official opening ceremony took place in the Municipal Assembly Hall, attended by Education Councillor Helena Leal. Of the 184 students, 36 are attending for the first time. This year's curriculum offers 32 disciplines across areas such as physical activity, arts, languages, culture, and technology.
New additions include the course "Migrations and Interculturality" and the new sports modalities "Senior Strength" and "Walking Football". Helena Leal emphasized the municipality's commitment to active aging and diversifying the university's offerings, aiming for a life of "quality, autonomy, health, participation, and dignity."
