Funchal: The Portuguese city where buying a home most strains family budgets

Funchal is the Portuguese city where families face the greatest financial strain to buy a home. According to an analysis by Idealista, housing represents 115% of net family income in the Madeiran capital.

In the rental market, the situation is also under significant pressure, with rent absorbing 99% of family income, a figure only surpassed by Faro (101%). Nationally, the effort rate for buying a home is 76% and for renting is 82%.

These figures place Funchal at the top of the list of cities where access to housing most impacts family budgets, contrasting with cities in the interior where the financial effort is considerably lower.
