The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, stated that the administrative offense proceedings concerning the seizure of dried gaiado in Caniçal are still active, despite the fish having been returned to the fishermen.
Maciel explained that the fish was returned because the responsible authority deemed it no longer necessary as evidence for the ongoing case.
Furthermore, the secretary announced new support measures for the fishing sector, including €320,000 for young fishermen and €870,000 to offset rising fuel costs, amounting to approximately €1.2 million in total aid.
