The Regional Government has renewed and increased its financial support for ISOPlexis – Centre for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Technology by 10%, allocating 55,000 euros through a new programme contract. The agreement aims to ensure the research center's activities, particularly its Germplasm Bank.
During the protocol signing, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, emphasized that the agreement signifies more than just funding, highlighting the opportunity for ISOPlexis to participate in the Regional Government's experimental fields and connect with agricultural associations and farmers. Maciel stressed the Germplasm Bank's role in preserving regional varieties and advocated for scientific research as essential for modernizing the sector.
The Rector of the University of Madeira, Sílvio Fernandes, deemed the support "fundamental" for a center that has been conducting research in seed preservation and Madeiran agriculture. Fernandes pointed out the need to leverage new technologies to address the challenges of climate and digital transition, advocating for closer collaboration between the university, government, farmers, and sector associations.
