The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) demonstrated on Thursday afternoon against the increase in fuel prices in Madeira. The protest took place in front of the Legislative Assembly of the Region, on Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirenses, in Funchal.
Protesters held signs with slogans such as "Prices go up, but wages don't" and "Enough of abusive prices." The initiative drew considerable curiosity from passersby and gained support from drivers on the Funchal waterfront.
The PCP argues that rising fuel prices increase the cost of living, impacting commutes, goods transport, and daily needs. The party criticizes the Regional Government for failing to provide adequate responses and utilize autonomous instruments to defend the population's interests, during a week when prices in the Region exceeded two euros per liter.
