The Judiciary Police (PJ) is investigating the death of a 66-year-old German woman following an incident on Tuesday afternoon in Santana.
The incident occurred near Estrada da Feiteira de Cima after an altercation between the woman and her 58-year-old Portuguese neighbour. Reports suggest the woman allegedly used pepper spray during the confrontation. The man claims he acted in self-defence by pushing her.
It is alleged that the woman then fell, striking her head on the edge of a levada and dying from her injuries. The exact circumstances remain under investigation. The suspect has been identified and is expected to appear in court. The PJ is working to establish the sequence of events and determine the legal classification, which may be negligent homicide.
