Adverse weather affecting the Santa Cruz municipality prompted the municipal civil protection service to put its resources on standby, with a coordinated response from the various emergency agents.
Between 8am and 7pm, 37 incidents were logged: 31 linked to the weather and civil protection, and 4 pre-hospital emergencies and 2 road accidents. Flooding of homes, garages and public roads was reported, along with blocked drainage channels, fallen trees and unstable walls.
Among the most notable cases, a tree fell onto a vehicle on the Estrada do Garajau in Caniço, and partial collapse of a wall on the Estrada dos Casais de Além in Camacha remains under monitoring. No casualties have been reported so far.
The municipality will continue to monitor the weather and sensitive areas, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel and follow authority guidance.
