The Horácio Bento de Gouveia (HBG) Basic School, located near the Cruz de Carvalho roundabout, faced heavy traffic this morning. The congestion intensified from 7:50 AM as students arrived with parents and guardians.
With classes scheduled to begin at 8:15 AM, the flow of vehicles towards the school led to slowdowns at the roundabout, particularly on the exit from Estrada da Liberdade, a main access route from the Via Rápida.
Despite a designated 'Kiss & Ride' area for passenger drop-off and pick-up, many parents continued to drop their children directly at the school gate. This situation also impacted traffic on Rua das Maravilhas, as some vehicles proceeded to Funchal's city center afterwards.
A PSP officer was present from 7:35 AM to help manage the traffic.
