The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation received 712 requests for permission to camp in the island's mountains during Rali Madeira week.
Poiso is the most sought-after location, and all three available campsites – Chão das Feiteiras, Terreiros, and Cruzes de Cima – are fully booked. Of the total campers, 200 are tourists.
Manuel Filipe, the Institute's president, urged attendees to take necessary precautions and assured that the Forestry Police will be vigilant for safety.
