In observance of World Allergy Day on July 8th, the Health Administration Institute, IP-RAM (IASAÚDE) emphasizes the full reimbursement of adrenaline pens. This measure, effective since October 31, 2020, guarantees free access to emergency medication for individuals with severe allergies.
Between November 2020 and December 2025, 1,876 adrenaline auto-injectors were purchased in the region. Adrenaline is the primary treatment for severe allergic reactions, which can be rapidly fatal without intervention.
The number of pens acquired annually under this scheme has been increasing, with a total investment exceeding 97,300 euros over the last five years. To qualify for full reimbursement, the medical prescription must explicitly reference Ordinance No. 257-A/2020.
