PCP Questions Costs and Funding of Madeira's New Hospital

The PCP calls for more transparency regarding Madeira's New Hospital, concerned about costs, delays, and future funding.

PCP Questions Costs and Funding of Madeira's New Hospital

The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) has requested greater public transparency concerning the New Hospital of Madeira. Concerns focus on rising construction costs, project delays, and how the remaining work will be funded.

Edgar Silva, the PCP's regional coordinator, stated that discussions covered "enormous cost overruns" and delays, partly blaming the procurement model which divided the development into separate public tenders. The party deems it essential to clarify who will bear the additional costs and identify funding sources.

Furthermore, the PCP questions whether the Regional Government has commissioned an updated cost-benefit analysis and when a new environmental impact assessment will occur, given project changes. Silva also asked the Portuguese Government about its willingness to contribute to additional costs and if the project remains viable.
