The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party announced its intention to request an urgent parliamentary hearing with the Health and Inclusion departments, as well as the clinical director of SESARAM. This action follows recent statements by Júlio Nóbrega, SESARAM's clinical director, who highlighted that around 500 patients with clinical discharge are still hospitalized.
During a press conference, JPP deputy Paulo Alves described the situation as "quite worrying" and called for an immediate response from the Regional Government. Alves emphasized that the issue of delayed discharges, affecting approximately 500 patients in the region, necessitates collaboration between the Health and Social Security departments, along with social partners and local authorities.
The JPP also linked the current situation to the recent temporary suspension of visits in the Emergency Service of Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital, citing overcrowding and challenges faced by healthcare professionals. The Nursing Council has also criticized the transfer of patients to a basement facility at João de Almada Hospital, deeming it disrespectful to patient dignity.
