The JPP party has requested a parliamentary hearing with the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection and the Clinical Director of SESARAM. This request follows reports of around 500 patients who are medically fit for discharge but remain in hospital due to a lack of social care support.
JPP deputy Paulo Alves described the situation as "very worrying" and called for an immediate response from the Regional Government. SESARAM's Clinical Director, Dr. Júlio Nóbrega, confirmed the total number of such patients is approximately 500, with about 250 located in Dr. Nélio Mendonça and Marmeleiros hospitals.
The JPP advocates for closer cooperation between the Health and Social Security departments, alongside social partners, private institutions, municipalities, and private providers, to resolve this pressing issue.
