Madeira-based tech company Vipa.pt has announced the launch of the SmartHealth project, an Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform designed to assist healthcare professionals in the early detection of breast and prostate cancer.
The project, with an eligible investment of three million euros and an expected duration of 24 months, was approved by the Portuguese Development Bank under the PRR – Reindustrialize the Autonomous Region of Madeira funding line. The solution will be developed locally, on-premises, to ensure clinical data protection and information sovereignty.
Developed in partnership with the University of Madeira and the Champalimaud Foundation's Breast Cancer Research Program, the SmartHealth platform will focus on mammographic image analysis, risk stratification for prostate cancer, and assisted generation of clinical reports. Vipa.pt emphasizes that the tool aims to support clinical decision-making, not replace healthcare professionals, by saving them time and providing an additional early detection instrument.
