The Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) will increase capacity on the PR1 – Vereda do Areeiro trail by adding 140 new daily spots. This measure takes effect on Sunday, June 21st, responding to the growing interest in the hike, one of Madeira's most popular.
These additional spots will be available through two new time slots on the SIMplifica Portal: 07:00–07:30 and 07:30–08:00, each accommodating 70 visitors. The aim is to improve visitor flow management, ensuring a more organized and safer experience, particularly during peak tourist season and for sunrise viewing.
From June 26th onwards, the PR1 trail will be open daily, with the new spot distribution becoming permanent. This initiative seeks to balance increased tourist demand with environmental sustainability and visitor safety.
