IL criticizes Regional Government's housing strategy, stating it is failing

The Liberal Initiative (IL) considers the regional housing policy inadequate to address the sector's crisis, with the Regional Government's measures failing to contain price rises or increase the housing supply.

The party cites data from the Idealista portal showing a 10.3% increase in Madeira's average housing price in July compared to the previous year, exceeding 4,000 euros per square meter in Funchal. Rental prices saw a 12.3% annual rise.

According to the IL, measures such as suspending new local accommodation licenses and providing acquisition and rental support have not yielded the expected results. The party advocates for structural reforms to increase supply, including recovering vacant properties and simplifying urban planning permits.
