Independent Councillor Warns of Closure Risk for Funchal's Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho Home

Independent councillor Jorge Afonso Freitas raised concerns at a Funchal Municipal Assembly meeting regarding the risk of closure for the Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho Home, located on Rua da Carreira.

The institution, which provides daily support including accommodation and hygiene facilities for homeless individuals, is facing financial difficulties and potential licensing problems. Freitas advocated for municipal intervention and proposed a meeting with the social welfare councillor to assess support, emphasizing that "the Home must be preserved."

The councillor also called for public mobilization to prevent the closure of this social service. Other topics discussed at the meeting included proposals on traffic, parking for people with disabilities, and criticism of delays in the 'Habitar Funchal' affordable housing program.
