The Institute for Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) is organizing International Bat Night next Saturday, August 29th. The initiative aims to bring the population closer to Madeira's biodiversity and will take place at the Cristo Rei viewpoint in Garajau, starting at 9 PM.
The event includes a session to listen to bat ultrasounds using specialized equipment that can detect calls inaudible to the human ear. Participants will learn about the biology, habitats, and ecological importance of these flying mammals, including their role in insect control.
This activity is part of an annual European event and seeks to combat myths surrounding bats, promoting informed knowledge and raising awareness for their conservation, in line with Madeira's commitment under EUROBATS.
