IPMA raises heat warning to orange for Madeira's south coast and mountainous areas

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has upgraded the hot weather warning to orange for the southern and mountainous regions of the island.

The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has raised the hot weather warning level to orange, affecting the south coast of Madeira and its mountainous regions. This change took effect on Monday and will remain in place until 6 PM on Tuesday, September 15th.

The upgrade is due to the "persistence of high maximum temperatures," with expected readings of 30-32 degrees Celsius. The north coast of Madeira and Porto Santo remain under a yellow warning for the same reason and during the same timeframe.

The increased alert reflects the expectation that high maximum temperatures will continue over the next few days, particularly in areas most exposed to the heat.
