IPMA warns of extreme UV radiation levels in Madeira and Porto Santo until Tuesday

The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a warning for ultraviolet (UV) radiation levels in Madeira and Porto Santo island, which are expected to reach extreme values on Monday and Tuesday.

UV levels in Funchal are predicted to rise progressively, hitting level 10+ (extreme) on Monday and Tuesday. Porto Santo will also experience high values, following a similar trend. Health authorities advise avoiding direct sun exposure between 11 AM and 4 PM, using high-factor sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and appropriate clothing.

Additionally, IPMA forecasts heat and abundant sunshine across the archipelago, with generally little cloud cover. However, periods of increased cloudiness are expected on the northern slopes of Madeira island. The Fire Weather Index (FWI) indicates a moderate risk for most of the territory, but a maximum danger level in the high mountain interior region.
