The presence of a Portuguese Air Force helicopter operating off the coast of Garajau yesterday afternoon aroused public curiosity, leading to shared reports and images on social networks.
According to the commander of the Maritime Zone of Madeira, Bruno Teles, it was a joint exercise between the Navy and the Portuguese Air Force. The training involved an EH-101 Merlin helicopter and the patrol ship NRP Zaire.
This type of training is regularly carried out by the two armed forces to improve coordination and response capacity during emergencies, particularly in search-and-rescue operations.
