Jorge Santos, Mayor of Ribeira Brava, has made a visit to Venezuela, becoming the first Madeiran mayor to do so after the earthquake that struck the country.
During his stay in Valencia, Santos was welcomed by representatives of the Madeiran diaspora and visited institutions such as the Associação Civil de Beneficência Portuguesa Só Bem and the Centro Social Madeirense. The mayor learned about the work of these associations in preserving Madeiran culture and traditions and engaged with the community's challenges.
In a symbolic gesture, Jorge Santos presented jerseys from Clube Desportivo da Ribeira Brava to the president of the Centro Social Madeirense and the Consul General of Portugal in Valencia, strengthening the connection between the municipality and emigrants. The visit also included the delivery of donations collected at the Luso-Venezuelan Festival.
