The Popular Youth (JP) of Madeira believes that solving housing access issues requires more than just reducing purchase or rental costs; improving salaries is equally important.
This position was conveyed after a meeting with the Order of Economists as part of the "Build the Future — Home, Family, and Natality" event. The youth organization emphasizes the need to create conditions for young people to achieve financial independence and start families.
The meeting examined the link between the regional economic model, household incomes, and the challenges faced by younger generations. Discussions highlighted Madeira's reliance on tourism and the impact of lower value-added activities. JP advocates for greater economic diversification and improved business conditions, stating, "We cannot discuss the housing problem solely by looking at house prices. We must also look at the salaries our economy can afford," said Carlos Bettencourt, a member of JP Madeira's Political Commission.
