Nuno Maciel Announces New Support for Fishing at Sea and Fisherman's Fair Opening

The Regional Government announced €870,000 to offset energy costs and €750,000 to boost coastal communities.

At the opening of the IX Sea and Fisherman's Fair in Caniçal, the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, announced new support measures for the fishing sector.

€870,000 will be made available through the MAR 2030 program to compensate for energy cost overruns, such as fuel. Additionally, a new call for proposals with €750,000 will support small businesses and projects to revitalize coastal communities.

Maciel reaffirmed the Regional Government's commitment to valuing fishing and the blue economy, assuring the defense of the sector's demands at the European level and collaboration with associations and fishermen. The secretary also highlighted the role of Caniçal's fishermen and thanked the fair's organizers and volunteers.
