JP Madeira warns: having a job is no longer enough to buy a house

The CDS Youth wing has highlighted the growing difficulties for young Madeirans in buying or renting their first home. A meeting with CENTURY 21 Realty Art Alameda examined market prices, the scarcity of properties compatible with local incomes, and financing conditions.

Lara Pereira, vice-president of JP Madeira, emphasized that the problem lies in the lack of affordable housing, not just credit access. Demand has shifted to areas further from Funchal, forcing adaptations in housing choices.

The impact of interest rates, demand from resident and non-resident buyers, and high construction costs were also discussed. JP Madeira advocates for greater price transparency and policies that consider residents' financial capacity.
