JPP accuses PSD/CDS of ignoring complaints about odors at Lazareto WWTP

JPP regrets the rejection of a proposal to resolve odor issues at the Lazareto Wastewater Treatment Plant, affecting residents' quality of life.

The councilors of Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) in the Funchal Municipal Chamber criticized the PSD/CDS majority for rejecting a Recommendation Proposal aimed at the urgent resolution of bad odors in the area of the Lazareto Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

According to JPP, the situation severely affects the quality of life and public health of local residents. The facility, inaugurated in June 2025, began generating complaints in October of the same year, and despite initial acknowledgment by the municipality, the odors persist daily.

The opposition party highlighted that the rejection of the proposal ignores testimonies from residents reporting daily impacts, including the need to keep homes closed and economic losses. The rejected proposal included an urgent technical audit and the presentation of a corrective measures plan with a binding timeline for odor eradication.
