A delegation from the Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) party conducted an institutional visit to the island of Jersey, at the invitation of the local Madeiran community. The delegation was received by the Bailiff of Jersey, Sir Robert MacRae, and the Minister for External Relations, Senator Ian Gorst.
During the visit, topics such as fiscal models, economic diversification, health, housing, and administrative organization were discussed, fostering an exchange of experiences that could open new avenues for cooperation between Jersey and Madeira. The JPP emphasized the value of understanding other island realities to find solutions for regional challenges, showing particular interest in maritime connectivity through Jersey's ferry model.
The delegation also noted the strong integration of the Madeiran community in Jersey, acknowledged by local authorities. The JPP believes these communities should be viewed as partners of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
