The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party is demanding clarification from the Regional Government regarding plans to reopen Regional Road 105, specifically the Encumeada to Paul da Serra section, which has been closed for two years. Deputy Basílio Santos expressed regret that, following heavy rains in February and fires in August 2024 that led to the road's closure, the solutions to ensure safety and allow traffic remain unknown.
JPP questions what studies have been conducted, their conclusions, and the proposed solutions for the road to serve residents and visitors again. The party states that the closure has harmed the local economy, impacting restaurants and hotels, and jeopardizing some businesses. Basílio Santos also highlighted the consequences for fire prevention and fighting efforts, as well as the loss of an alternative route to tourist sites.
The party advocates for investment in the road's consolidation and urges the Government to provide a timeline with reopening dates. The reopening could also alleviate traffic congestion on the island's west coast roads.
