The JPP party has reiterated its demand for solutions from the Funchal Municipal Council regarding the persistent foul odors in the area surrounding the Lazareto Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR).
The initiative follows complaints from residents reporting severe daily disruptions, over a year after the facility's inauguration in June 2025. JPP's parliamentary group leader, Isabel Santos, questioned why the problem continues to affect residents' quality of life.
Residents have reported significant limitations, such as being unable to open windows or use balconies. The JPP calls for technical explanations and a schedule of concrete interventions from the municipality to effectively resolve the environmental nuisance.
