The Madeira Forest Police Corps (CPF) now has 36 new members, bringing its total strength to 100 officers. These agents are stationed across 25 forest posts in seven areas of the archipelago.
"We are equipping Madeira with more resources, greater intervention capacity, and enhanced protection capabilities," stated the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus. He emphasized that two-thirds of the region's territory, particularly on Madeira Island, holds reserve or protected area status.
This reinforcement, the largest in its history, includes only one woman among the 36 new recruits. The CPF, established in 1913, focuses on inspection and fire prevention, having issued 281 fines between January and August for violations such as unpaid trail access fees and illegal waste dumping.
