The sandy beach Banda d'Além in Machico has once again been closed to bathers. The local branch of the Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has requested "urgent and transparent clarifications" from public health authorities.
According to JPP, this is the third time in two months that the bathing area has been closed. The decision appears to be linked to "negative results" in water analyses, which were repeated in recent tests conducted in early August.
JPP believes that, especially during a high-traffic month like August, the public needs clear and visible information about the reasons for the closures. The party questions the origin of the problem, the solutions being developed, and potential public health consequences, advocating for greater communication rigor from responsible entities.
