JPP opposes cut in parking spaces at Praia Formosa project

The JPP calls the reduction of 180 parking spaces in the Praia Formosa project unacceptable and voted against it in Funchal's council.

The Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) opposes the reduction of 180 parking spaces in the Praia Formosa project in Funchal. The party describes the change as an "unacceptable concession" by the PSD/CDS majority on the municipal council, arguing it harms users of one of the few free-access beaches in the city.

Councillors Fátima Aveiro and António Trindade voted against the amendment at the meeting of 22 October and issued a statement of vote. The party says it does not oppose private investment, but insists that agreed public benefits must be safeguarded.

The JPP notes that the execution project approved in October 2023 included 600 parking spaces, now reduced to 360, a 40% cut. It questions what has changed and criticises the PSD for moving away from earlier commitments made under former mayor Miguel Albuquerque.
