Socialists question delays in Funchal's Habitar Funchal housing programme

The Socialist group backed the sixth budget amendment but questioned delays and the funding model behind the housing programme.

The Socialist Party group in the Funchal Municipal Assembly voted in favour of the sixth amendment to the 2026 municipal budget, while raising concerns about delays in implementing housing policies.

The amendment allocates 500,000 euros to the "Habitar Funchal" programme this year and 1.5 million euros in the following years. Councillor Isabel Garcês welcomed the boost but questioned why the funds are offset by cuts to other items, and asked why the programme, approved in February 2025, only now has its budget allocation.

She also asked how many families will be reached and how the funds will be spent before year-end. The PS also questioned the financial impact of restructuring municipal services, which increases departments from 18 to 21.
