The JSD of Câmara de Lobos organized a debate session on the challenges of water and waste management in the Region, featuring Amílcar Gonçalves, chairman of the board of Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM).

The initiative aimed to "raise awareness among young people about water and waste treatment in the Region" and the involved infrastructure, as well as to "analyze with the speaker some specific issues of the municipality," explained Licínia de Jesus, president of the local JSD.

During the meeting, Amílcar Gonçalves discussed the shift from municipal to regional management, the introduction of Saturday waste collection, the daily routes of ARM teams, and the impact of rising fuel costs. He also highlighted the importance of tariffs for service sustainability and urged greater collective responsibility in waste disposal and river pollution prevention.

Regarding water resources, the ARM president emphasized water capture in the north of the island and the extent of the irrigation network, but warned about water losses, which are around 60%. The JSD of Câmara de Lobos intends to continue awareness initiatives for the sustainable management of these resources.
