The response capacity of the Machico Municipal Firefighters will be reduced during nighttime hours starting August 1. This change stems from a decision by the Administrative and Fiscal Court of Funchal (TAFF) which suspended a municipal resolution.
The resolution in question aimed to integrate workers from the operational assistant career into the professional firefighter career. The TAFF decided on June 21 to suspend this measure, which was approved by the municipal executive in February 2026.
The readjustment of service scales at the fire station necessitates a partial suspension of emergency response capabilities between 8:00 PM and 8:00 AM due to insufficient personnel for night operations. The Machico Municipal Council assures that the population's safety remains a priority and that necessary measures to ensure relief coverage in the municipality during the suspension period have been communicated to the Regional Command of Relief Operations.
