The Autonomous Region of Madeira reaffirms its national and international standing in environmental sustainability and tourism quality with 27 Blue Flags awarded in 2026. This total comprises 17 beaches, three marinas and recreational ports, and seven ecotourism boats, in a year celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Blue Flag Programme.
The distinctions span eight municipalities across Madeira, showcasing a collaborative effort between the Regional Government, local councils, and private operators. The official Blue Flag raising ceremony took place at Funchal Marina, where the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment, and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, highlighted the recognition of decades of work.
Eduardo Jesus commended the Blue Flag Association for Environmental Education (ABAE) for the program's 40 editions and emphasized the consistency of Funchal Marina, which has now received 32 distinctions, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to responsible environmental management and infrastructure quality.
