The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, revealed that the region is working to strengthen air links with the United States. Miami is among the destinations being considered for future routes, particularly due to the significant Madeiran community in the area.
Albuquerque highlighted the "excellent relationship" between Madeira and the US, viewing the country as a "friend" to the region. He advocated for reinforcing commercial, scientific, and tourism ties, noting the success of the current United Airlines operation between Madeira and New York as a key factor for new routes.
The official also praised the Madeiran community in the US, describing them as "hardworking" and "very well integrated," with many families now in their third and fourth generations. The visit of the US Ambassador to Portugal, John Joseph Arrigo, coincided with these remarks.
