Madeira Aims to Strengthen Economic Cooperation with São Tomé and Príncipe

The Regional Secretary for Economy, José Manuel Rodrigues, has called for strengthened economic cooperation between Madeira and São Tomé and Príncipe. He believes there are favourable conditions to enhance institutional, business, and cultural relations between the two territories.

Rodrigues made these remarks during a solemn ceremony in Funchal commemorating the 51st anniversary of São Tomé and Príncipe's independence. He highlighted the establishment of São Tomé and Príncipe's Honorary Consulate in Madeira as a significant institutional step, facilitating contacts and fostering new collaboration opportunities.

Priority areas for cooperation identified include the blue economy, tourism, vocational training, scientific research, technological innovation, and entrepreneurship. Rodrigues expressed confidence in increased investment from Madeiran companies in São Tomé and Príncipe, viewing Madeira as a natural partner for deepening these economic and institutional ties.
