Madeira Airport Strengthens Border Control with New PSP Agents

Madeira International Airport will be reinforced with new agents from the Public Security Police (PSP) specialized in border control. This measure is part of a national deployment of 367 officers who recently completed their training.

The new personnel will begin a two-week operational internship. In addition to Lisbon Airport, which receives 170 agents, the remainder will be distributed among the airports of Porto, Faro, Madeira, and the Azores.

The reinforcement aims to make passenger control at national airports more agile, although the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, acknowledges the possibility of occasional constraints. Increased air traffic, with 20,000 more passengers daily compared to the previous year, has been putting pressure on airport infrastructure.
