Madeira is listed among the tourist regions experiencing continuous growth, driven by domestic demand, according to Francisco Calheiros, president of the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal (CTP).
Calheiros highlighted the significance of the national market, which accounts for over 30% of total overnight stays in Portugal, and urged that it remain a priority for the sector.
He noted that while destinations like the Algarve, Madeira, and Lisbon were most sought-after before the pandemic, other regions such as Alentejo and central Portugal have also seen significant growth, benefiting from domestic tourism.
