The Madeira Astronomers Association (AAAM) is participating in the "Summer Astronomy 2026" program, promoting scientific outreach initiatives on the island.
The first event is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th, from 9:30 PM to midnight, near the Funchal Ecological Park Astronomical Observatory (OPAF) at Casa do Areeiro. Titled "A Stroll Through the Summer Stars," the nighttime session will allow the public to explore the summer sky, weather permitting.
Participation is free and open to everyone. The AAAM will provide telescopes and observation equipment at no cost. The association, active since 2001, aims to promote astronomy, observe phenomena, produce astrophotography, and develop scientific projects. Since 2023, it has operated the OPAF, a municipal facility supported by the Funchal City Council.
