All districts of mainland Portugal and the Madeira archipelago are facing a very high risk of exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation today and throughout the weekend.
On the island of Madeira, the UV radiation index reached level 9, while in Porto Santo it registered level 10, the highest in the entire national territory. The IPMA recommends for these areas the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, t-shirt, umbrella, and sunscreen, as well as avoiding sun exposure for children.
For regions at extreme risk, the institute advises avoiding sun exposure whenever possible. High-risk levels imply the use of sunglasses with UV filter, hat, t-shirt, and sunscreen.
