The Madeira Promotion Association (APM) held the 'Toast to America' event at the residence of the Portuguese Ambassador in Washington D.C. The initiative commemorated a historic moment: the 1776 toast to US independence, made with Madeira Wine.
The President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, attended and emphasized the historical connection between Madeira and the USA. He highlighted that the 1776 toast was an "initial blessing" for American success, a link the Region aims to continue promoting in the North American market.
Albuquerque also noted the success of the direct air link between Newark and Madeira, operated by United Airlines since 2025, which has brought the two markets closer. The need for a future direct air link with Miami to further enhance connectivity was also discussed.
As a gesture of gratitude, Miguel Albuquerque presented Christine Lawson, a representative from the US State Department, with a 1976 Terrantez Madeira Wine bottle, Madeira embroidery, and Siza Vieira glasses, symbolizing Madeiran heritage.
