Madeira is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the installation of its first Regional Legislative Assembly (ALRAM) this Sunday, July 19th. The date is considered significant for the history of the region's autonomy.

The commemorations include a solemn session in the assembly hall, attended by the president of the Legislative Assembly of the Azores, Luís Garcia, at the invitation of the Madeiran parliament president, Rubina Leal. The ceremony will feature speeches from all represented political parties, concluding with Rubina Leal's address.

Throughout the day, the commemoration of autonomy continues with a memorial mass for deputies who have passed away over the last five decades, to be presided over by the Bishop of Funchal. Alongside these events, sporting, political, and cultural activities are taking place across the island.
