The island of Madeira now has two certified companies offering stargazing-at-sea experiences. This new tourist product combines nighttime navigation, sky interpretation, and the valorization of maritime navigation history.
Five regional companies participated in training for the European project Twinned by Stars, with two completing the certification process and ready to market this experience. The aim is for participants to learn to identify celestial bodies and understand how ancient navigators oriented themselves, utilizing the low light pollution conditions at sea.
The Twinned by Stars project, involving partners from Madeira, the Azores, the Canary Islands, and Martinique, seeks to enhance the competitiveness of maritime tourism in the EU's outermost regions through innovation and sustainability. The certified companies can now offer this product, with the remaining three participants expected to complete their certification later.
