The Madeira Global Forum 2026 will take place tomorrow, July 23rd, at the Auditorium of the Madeira Congress Centre, with a record participation of over 450 speakers from Madeiran communities worldwide.
Promoted by the Regional Government of Madeira, the event runs under the theme “Roots of Identity, Bridges to the Future,” coinciding with the celebrations of the Region’s 50 years of Autonomy and the Forum's 10th anniversary. The opening session will feature the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque.
A highlight will be the inaugural presentation of the Madeira Global Decoration, a new award created to recognize diaspora figures and institutions for their contributions to promoting Madeiran identity and supporting communities. Honorees include José Luís Silva (posthumously), João de Jesus Marques Luís, and Felisberto Camacho.
Journalist Nuno Rogeiro and former minister Ângelo Correia will be guest speakers, addressing contemporary global challenges and the future. A panel discussion with young Madeiran diaspora representatives will explore the transmission of Madeiran identity to new generations.
