The 100% biometric data collection for passengers arriving from outside the Schengen area is proceeding without major issues at Portuguese airports. Madeira currently has 115 police officers assigned to airport security and border control.
According to the PSP's deputy national director, Superintendent Chief João Ribeiro, a total of 1,504 police officers are stationed at airports nationwide. The mandatory collection of photographs and fingerprints, in effect since September 6th, is running "smoothly," although Faro is experiencing "greater pressure."
The PSP estimates it is operating at 80% of its recommended capacity and acknowledges the need to reinforce human resources, particularly those with expertise in detecting forged documents and anticipating migratory risks.
