Madeira Hospital's Third Phase Tendered for 415 Million Euros

The new tender for the third phase of the Madeira Central and University Hospital construction has been set at 415 million euros (plus VAT). This decision follows the first attempt, launched at 265 million euros, which failed to attract any bids.

Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, stated that the procedure will be presented to the Government Council next Thursday for formalization. This time, the tender will not include a prior qualification of companies. Proposals are expected by October, with analysis and approval from the Court of Auditors to follow, and construction commencement planned for early next year.

The increase of over 50% in the budget is attributed to the international economic situation, including unstable energy and raw material costs, and the significant reliance on imported equipment. This phase is expected to take an additional three and a half years to complete.
